Cultural and Temple Etiquette

Do's:

• Respect the local religion and ceremonies, Bali is deeply Hindu. If you encounter a religious ceremony or procession, stop and observe it respectfully.
• Dress modestly at temples or any sacred site, you must wear a sarong and a sash to cover your legs and waist, your shoulders should also be covered. Sarongs are often available to rent at the temple entrance.

Don'ts:

• Don't enter sacred areas when menstruating. This is considered impure in Balinese Hindu tradition. If you have an open wound, you should also avoid entering.
• Don't trespass sacred grounds: Respect all designated holy areas and restricted zones within temples.
• Don't climb sacred structures or trees
• Don't walk on offerings.
• Don't pose inappropriately for photos. Avoid disrespectful behavior, like taking indecent or nude photos at sacred sites.
